Center for Public Finance

Research has shown that public officials have a desire to improve the financial knowledge of their offices. A rapidly changing financial and technical environment requires ongoing education that is often difficult to obtain locally.

The Center for Public Finance is created to assist public finance managers in their fiduciary obligations and oversight responsibilities.

    


Goals and Objectives

Goal #1 – To improve the controls and efficiencies in the management of public funds

  • Objective – To provide public finance managers with relevant information on establishing Internal controls.
  • Objective – To train public finance managers by providing courses on cash management topics.
  • Objective - To provide exposure to and resources for treasury “best practices”.
  • Objective – To assist political subdivisions in ways to maximize the interest earnings on the citizen’s tax dollars.
Goal #2 – To develop a resource center for political subdivisions
  • Objective – To develop a series of multi-level courses to be offered twice a year.
  • Objective – To provide ongoing research on the changing financial education needs of public fund managers.
  • Objective – To maintain a list of resources, including books, training, associations, and contacts for use by public fund managers and oversight bodies.
